embodied spaces: a choreography festival
Embodied Spaces, roxy + company is an investigation into what legitimizes performance spaces. The festival’s structure reimagines how we inhabit performative spaces in an attempt to derive power and expression from the people and not the place. In an interview with Brooklyn Rail, Gordon tells of her desire to “slowly build spaces for [our peers] to create work instead of relying on spaces that have already been there […]”
Embodied Spaces I and II are not just a performance festivals, but instead opportunities for artist development including peer showings, feedback on writing, performance moderation, and monthly meetings for production support and sharing. Embodied Spaces empowers the artists in the festival by giving them freedom to create the work that they choose to create, but also holds them accountable for their work through a moderated feedback session each night.
